The course Introduction to Greenhouse Technology introduces greenhouse technology and how farmers use it to increase the amount and quality of produce, to increase the economic value of their crops. The students will study the greenhouse effect, and learn how to build a greenhouse taking various factors in account. Practical tasks throughout the lesson help students to understand how factors such as light, heat, airflow and building material influence the greenhouse and the crops that are grown inside.

The Introduction to Irrigation course introduces agricultural irrigation. The history of irrigation and the ancient irrigation systems are studied and used to illustrate concepts such as water absorption and the transportation of water. Students also learn about modern irrigation systems such as the sprinkler irrigation, drip irrigation systems, capillary and gravitational irrigation. They will study the factors that affect water loss, the availability of water in soil and how much water is absorbed by plants. The course includes many practical tasks to illustrate the various irrigation systems and the factors that influence these systems.

The Advanced Irrigation course builds on the previous course Introduction to Irrigation. More advanced subjects such as hydraulics and the essential components of a modern irrigation system are taught. Students will learn how to plan an irrigation system and how to choose the correct pipes, valves, pump unit and control heads according the environment and the farmers’ requirements. The practical tasks in the course are designed to help the students understand hydraulic science and how to plan an irrigation system by themselves.

The AutoAgronom system is an advanced irrigation management system that was developed to solve the various problems found in conventional agronomy techniques. The AutoAgronom system allows users to accurately establish the correct quantities and exact timing of water irrigation and fertilization needed by various types of crops throughout the year.
In this first lesson of the AutoAgronom system a general overview of the system is given and then the theory behind the technology is explained. Students will perform various tasks and work though interactive animations to gain an insight into how and why the AutoAgronom system is so effective.
